Mining has been a vital source of revenue for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for a long time. The Greater Katanga region, which encompasses numerous mining operations and different mining and mineral processing industries, is presently one of the most significant economic sectors in the country. In 2018, an amendment was made to the mining code of the Democratic Republic of Congo under the Law No. 18/001. This amendment added a new chapter titled 'DE LA RESPONSABILITÉ INDUSTRIELLE DU TITULAIRE' which outlines standards related to the social responsibility of mining companies towards the local population.
